About
Philip started directing when he was a little kid. His passion for filmmaking began when he got his first small camera for his 11th birthday. This passion kept growing as he entered film contests and won 2nd place in a national competition. He started film school in Hilversum and moved to Brussels to study film there.
To get a more broad understanding of storytelling, he moved back to Amsterdam to study English Literature at the University of Amsterdam. During his studies here, he kept making short films in his spare time, sending these to film festivals. He got a job as a personal assistant to a screenwriter in America and decided to move there for a while.
During his work here, he started the production of a short comedy/drama, that was eventually screened on festivals internationally. The connections gained during his work in America eventually led to the production of a short horror film, for a talent agent in Hollywood. This film gained international acclaim and thus introduced the production of a second short horror/thriller. This short, tackling the centuries-old Amsterdam student frats, functions as a proof-of-concept for a feature-film version and is currently in post-production.
Philip has always extracted his inspiration from big directors like Christopher Nolan and Gore Verbinski. His signature style is defined by rhythm, aesthetic authenticity and 'narrative jumpscares'. One day he hopes to work on big features for big studios.
